What Kind of Man Qualifies as a Sugardaddy?

"Sugardaddy" is a word that comes to us all the way from the early 20th century - the "Roaring 20s", the flapper era, and the dawn of the industrial era, when men were rapidly rising to the rank of millionaire in the space of a few years. The recent return of the popularity of this term has led to an increased interest in dating sugardaddies.

In short, a sugardaddy is an independently wealthy single man. A related term is "playboy", signifying the carefree lifestyle you're shooting for. But not just anyone will do! Typically, a man is considered of sugardaddy status if he meets all of the following conditions:

1. Huge wealth. - Anybody on the Forbes list of world-class billionaires for a start, but that's only 500 people worldwide. For anybody aged 40 or over, he has to at least be a millionaire, and for younger than 40 he has to be taking in at least six figures per year.
2. Lavish spender. - There are no sugardaddies in condominiums or driving old Toyotas. Think more along the lines of a custom-built mansion, a collection of high-end sports cars, and a few eccentricities such as a pet llama or a ski lift on the mansion premises.
3. Power. - He has to either have owned or founded a major corporation or be the CEO of one, or be in a position of political power. That could mean being the heir to a middle-Eastern prince, being a Governor, being a Prime Minister, and so on.
4. Lots of leisure time. - All that vast wealth doesn't count for much if he has to work like a dog for it. A prime sugardaddy can afford to hop off to the Caribbean for the week on the spur of the moment.

Along with all of the above, sugardaddies tend to have one or more of the following characteristics, though it's not required:

1. Mature. - Typical age range is 50+.
2. Old money. - Nothing says "sugardaddy" like the nephew of an oil tycoon. Men in this class aren't wealthy all by themselves, but have a family which is also wealthy.
3. Roots in technology. - Computers and the related industries have put more men on the Forbes 500 list than any other industry in history. Any CEO of a major tech company with a symbol on the stock tickers is a likely candidate.
4. Panache. - You just can't call a man a sugardaddy when he's this dull, boring guy who doesn't like to spend his money. Look for a little bit of a show-off.
5. Social. - They have reserved tables at the finest restaurants, the clerks at the highest-end store in town know them by name, they've been the guest on a few talk shows, they get interviewed by the newspapers regularly, and they're a familiar face to the public. There are usually no shut-ins in this category.

Oh, one more thing - all of the above doesn't do you a lick of good if he's just not that into you! So above all, he must be interested in dating younger women. The "daddy" part is no joke. All sugardaddy relationships will usually run to December-May romances.

That being said, sometimes it's all about being a beautiful piece of arm-candy to show up at the Oscars with. Many of these types of relationships really do comprise of nothing but simple companionship. This might be for traveling, or escort to events, or just plain everyday friendship. Don't go into it with the assumption that there will be sex or even a close relationship involved, although don't rule it out, either.
